Greenleaf Community Center’s New Court is Now Open!

On Tuesday, June 18th we teamed up with the City of Springfield’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to unveil a new basketball court at the Greenleaf Community Center in Springfield.

The event featured long time local media personality, Scott Coen who served as emcee and the comedic basketball troupe, the Court Jesters. The Court Jesters interacted with the crowd and showcased their impressive basketball tricks. Additionally, the event featured a Helping Hoops Free Throw Challenge to help benefit five local nonprofit organizations: Camp STAR Angelina, Dunbar Community Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Family Services, Urban League of Springfield, and Open Pantry Community Services.

Our President and CEO, John F. Heaps Jr., ended the celebration by announcing that each nonprofit would receive $1,000 from the Bank. Additionally, the Basketball Hall of Fame offered $500 per nonprofit from their organization. In total, the Helping Hoops challenge netted $7,500 in donations for the five area nonprofits.

“When we open a new branch, we like to show people what kind of neighbors we’re going to be,” said our Marketing Director, Monica Curhan. “We hope you leave thinking we are fun neighbors!”

The new basketball court located at 1188 Parker Street in the Sixteen Acres neighborhood in Springfield is now open for all to enjoy!
